Q: Can't get metapost to compile with modern command line tools I've inherited a project from a previous contractor who was a big metapost fan. I'm trying to compile some of the math using modern command line tools. I've tested a number of single programs and the metapost compiler seems to work as expected, but it won't compile a large file. Specifically, I'm trying to compile a file of generated equations in metapost using mpost -o latex output-file.mp (the.mp file extension is the result of a pre-processing step) For some reason, this file only compiles with the old make and pdflatex commands. The file in question is roughly 800 pages of generated LaTeX. I've checked the ouput of pdflatex and it is correctly generating the PDF. I've also used the file through Latex Workshop and the output is generated correctly. I've compiled the same files with xelatex and the compilation times are more than an order of magnitude faster. So far, this looks like a problem with the input/output format of the input file. The previous programmer was very fond of double spacing the math, a feature I find clumsy at best.
